Central image – the central image of a film poster usually directly relates to the film e.g the main character of the film, or a main subject of it. This draws the audience in, because it makes the film look more appealing and interesting.

Star image – Many film posters use the main character as the central image – and in most cases, this is a famous actor/actress. This catches the audience’s attention, and makes them more interested in watching the film because it has a celebrity that they may like.

Design and layout – most film posters use the most interesting, and dramatic elements of the film in the poster – to attract the audience’s attention.


Genre – One of the aims of the film poster is to convey the genre of the film, and what it is roughly about. This makes the audience decide if it is their sort of film, and therefore, whether they want watch it or not.
