Key Features of a Magazine Cover


Key features of a magazine cover:

*      A slogan/tagline that makes a claim of quality to attract the audience.

*      A masthead that suggests what the magazine is about.

*      A sell line that may persuade the customer to buy it instead of its other competitors.

*      A central image that usually a current, popular celebrity.

*      Discourse: The topics and language used by the media text (such as a magazine cover). It tends to centre on body image.

*      A cover line(s) that suggests what the content is and often contains teasers and rhetorical questions.

*      A mode of address, where the content ‘peaks’ to the reader – for example, some women’s magazines sound chatty and casual.


*      A house style to make the magazine recognisable to its readers.
